Athens,GA : Lawrenceville man crashes in Athens on May,Saturday 19th 2018

A 20-year-old Gwinnett County man was arrested for alleged drunken driving early Saturday after he crashed his car into a ditch on Cedar Shoals Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Someone called 911 at about 3:40 a.m. to report a car with heavy front-end damage, possibly from being involved in a crash, was in front of Cedar Shoals High School, according to police.

When officers approached the car, which had both front air bags deployed, the suspect exited and explained he crashed into the ditch when he swerved to avoid another vehicle, police said.

The Lawrenceville resident said he had consumed just one beer, but he failed roadside sobriety tests and a breath test indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of .121 percent, according to police.

He was charged with DUI and improper driving, police said.
