Jeanerette, LA : 22-year old officer Juandre Gilliam died, Two Arrested after High Speed Chase in Iberia Parish on Tuesday night, April 7, 2015
A Jeanerette police officer is dead after crashing his unit during a high-speed chase Tuesday night in Iberia Parish. Police say the officer killed in the line of duty, was 22-year old Juandre Gilliam. Two suspects were in the car Gilliam was chasing, Antre Terrel Joseph and an unnamed juvenile.
Both suspects were arrested and questioned overnight and will soon be brought to the Iberia Parish Jail. Charges are pending at this time.
Police say the crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on St. Peter Rd. near the Iberia-St. Mary parish line. Police haven't said why the chase ensued but say the officer notified them he was making a traffic stop just before the chase began.
Louisiana State Police are investigating the crash as standard procedure because it involves an officer. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's office is handling the criminal investigation.
Gilliam has been on the police force for two years. He graduated from the police academy last month.
