MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, PA : A New Jersey man died after crash on Friday, June 9, 2017
A New Jersey man died late Friday night after crashing his 1998 Honda Civic off the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Bucks County.
Alex J. Quiñones, 22, of Hamilton, New Jersey, was pronounced dead at the scene from apparent head trauma incurred during the crash. He was driving carelessly and not wearing a seatbelt when he lost control of his vehicle, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The incident occurred about 11:20 p.m. Friday when Quinones was traveling on I-95 South at a high rate of speed. He attempted to pass a tractor trailer on the right shoulder and veered off the right side of the road, striking a large sign post, State Police said in a public information release Saturday morning.
After crashing into the sign post, the vehicle careered into a ditch and then overturned several times as it went up an embankment. The car came to a final rest on its side, according to Trooper John McIlhinney’s crash report.
Firefighters extricated Quinones’ body from the mangled vehicle. State Police said the fatality occurred off I-95 South about 1,100 feet west of Woodbourne Road at milepost 44.7 in Middletown Township.
Tragically, Quiñones died on the eve of his birthday, according to posts on his social media account. Quiñones was slated to turn 23 on Saturday before his sudden death.
Quiñones loved his light blue Honda that he was killed driving in. He posted numerous pictures of his car on Facebook and took the Honda to car shows.
Friends and family took to pay tribute to Quiñones, who worked at a local MetroPCS store.
“Today is your birthday babyboy,” one woman posted to Facebook on Saturday. “This isn’t fair. But you’re spending it in heaven now.”
Another friend said Quiñones was one of a kind.
“No one could hold a candle stick to who you are,” the friend wrote on Facebook. “You didn’t wait for someone hand your what you wanted. You went out there and earned everything you owned.”
The man said Quiñones liked racing his Honda.
“If you see Paul Walker up there, don’t you dare race him before me!” the friend posted, referencing the late “Fast and Furious” actor.
