GREENWICH, CT : A Stamford man is dead after a crash on Thursday, November, 2nd 2017
A Stamford man is dead after a crash Thursday morning involving a tractor-trailer on Route 15, Connecticut State Police said.
Akija Elezaj, 62, of Stamford suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.
A tractor-trailer was traveling in the right lane on Route 15 northbound — the Merritt Parkway — near exit 31 in Greenwich. Elezaj was driving behind the tractor-trailer.
State police said the tractor-trailer started to move into the left lane in an attempt to clear the Stanwich Road overpass. The driver of the tractor-trailer, state police said, stopped just before the overpass and Elezaj crashed into the rear of the truck.
Elezaj was transported to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead in by an emergency room physician, state police said. The operator of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Tractor-trailers are not permitted to drive on the Merritt Parkway.
Both vehicle were towed because of the damages caused during the crash. State police said the investigation into this accident continues.
