Greenwood, South Carolina
One person is dead after failing to stop at a stop sign and hitting the side of a tractor-trailer, according to officials.
At 4 p.m. Friday, the driver of a 2005 Ford F150 was driving along General Henderson Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the side of a tractor trailer driving east along S.C. Highway 34, said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller with the state Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Ford was not wearing a seat belt, and died on the scene, Miller said. The driver of the Freightliner tractor trailer was not injured, and there were no passengers in either vehicle, Miller said.
Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece said the autopsy for the Ford driver was scheduled for Saturday morning, and his identity would be released then.
Newberry County EMS, emergency services and deputies were on the scene, along with a hazardous materials team, since fuel spilled, according to an email alert from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
