La Place, LA: I-55 northbound reopens near Ruddock after 8-hour closure on Thursday, July 30th 2015

Northbound Interstate 55 reopened near Ruddock after a wreck closed both lanes for eight hours Thursday (July 30), traffic authorities said at 9 a.m. Minor injuries were reported.The highway closed at 1 a.m. because two tractor-trailers crashed. State Police said one of the trucks was hauling vehicles and that its driver had pulled onto the right shoulder to secure the truck's load. He tried to merge back into traffic and hit another tractor-trailer in the right lane. The second truck hit the left railing of the elevated roadway bridge and overturned.Two vehicles that were being hauled on the first truck caught fire, State Police said. About 10 tow trucks responded to remove the vehicles on the trailer, according to traffic information provider Total Traffic.The driver of the second truck was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the first truck wasn't injured, State Police said.
