Fresno, CA : One person killed and two injured in collision at Shields and Marks in Fresno County on Sunday evening, March 13, 2016
One woman was killed and two others injured in a fatal collision Sunday evening near the intersection of Shields and Marks avenues in Fresno.
The crash happened around 5:40 p.m. and involved a red Pontiac Grand Am and a silver compact vehicle, Fresno police Lt. Mindy Casto said.
The cause of the collision is unclear, Casto said, but the impact was so severe that the compact was jammed into a fence alongside the roadway.
Officers used a chain from a bystander to pull the car away from the fence so that they could reach the victim, Casto said. They performed lifesaving efforts on the 53-year-old woman, but she later succumbed to her injuries.
“It was quick thinking on the officers’ part and the citizens to get a chain and do their best to try to rescue her from the vehicle,” Casto said.
Two other women involved in the collision were seriously injured, Casto said, and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center.
