Los Angeles, CA : Korina Campos, 27, killed, and 5-year-old girl severely injured in collision with hit-and-run driver on Boyle Avenue in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 30, 2016

A $50,000 reward was offered Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible for a hit-and-run that killed a young mother and badly injured her 5-year-old daughter in Boyle Heights, according to police.

Korina Campos parked her 1998 Honda Civic on Boyle Avenue, near Whittier Boulevard, around 1:50 p.m. Saturday, when the incident occurred, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Campos, 27, took her 5-year-old daughter out of the backseat when they were struck, Detective Felix Padilla said. The collision caused the mother to be “launched,” and she was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at LAC+USC Medical Center.

The 5-year-old suffered a fractured pelvis, and was expected to survive.

Grainy surveillance video of the incident shows a vehicle driving along the curving roadway when it struck Campos’ car and proceeded to spin out.

The hit-and-run driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Corolla, before striking the mother and girl, Padilla said.

“It very well could have been an accident,” he said. “The crime is leaving the scene of an accident. … We just would have taken a report and they would have been on their way. When you leave the scene, that’s when police get involved.”

The man — who may have suffered an injury to his abdomen and been bleeding at the scene — then fled.

Witnesses attempted to detain him when he simulated that he had a handgun in his waistband, Padilla said.

He then ran through nearby Hollenbeck Park.

The man was described as being 30 to 35 years old, with tattoos on both forearms, Padilla said.

Police added that he was believed to be Hispanic, and was wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the crash.

The Los Angeles City Council is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver, police said in a Tuesday news release.

A news conference was initially scheduled for Wednesday to the discuss the reward and present photos of the victim and hit-and-run vehicle. It has since been canceled.
