A school bus carrying 32 students crashed into an abandoned mobile home in the Dovesville in Darlington County Monday morning, reportedly after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
There were minor injuries in the collision, which was reported at 7:20 a.m. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the accident on Cedar Ridge Road at Wallflower Lane in Dovesville, according to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.
The bus driver, 37-year-old Lakeisha Renee Graham-Martin, fell asleep while driving the bus, according to Corporal Sonny Collins with the SCHP, and she will be charged with disregard of a stop sign. Graham-Martin has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation into the accident, according to Audrey Childers with DCSD.
Four students, two from Darlington High and two from Darlington Middle, were transported to nearby hospitals, Childers said. About 14 other students, who were initially cleared by EMS, were taken to area hospitals by their parents for further evaluation.
Students on the bus were on their way to Darlington High School, Darlington Middle School, and Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology.
