Allentown, PA : Speed and fog were factors in Bucks crash that killed man, police say on Monday September 19 2016

The Bucks County motorist who died Monday night when his car crashed into a tree probably was driving too fast for the foggy conditions, Hilltown Township police said Wednesday.

Timothy J. Murphy, 23, of West Park Avenue, Silverdale, was killed in the 11:45 p.m. crash on Green Street, just north of Oak Drive, in Silverdale, police said.

Murphy was going north on Green Street in the fog when his car went off the right side of the street and slammed into the tree with the driver's side of his car, police said.

Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car.

"Speed was a major factor in the crash," Hilltown police said. "The dense fog in the area at the time of the crash may have been a contributing factor."

The street was closed more than two hours while police investigated the accident.
