Northeast, NY : Connecticut woman killed in one-car crash in New York on Sunday, June 19, 2016
Authorities in New York say they suspect alcohol played a role in a one-car crash that claimed the life of a 26-year-old Connecticut woman.
The Dutchess County sheriff's office says deputies responded around 5:30 a.m. Sunday to a 911 call reporting a crash in the town of Northeast, on the Connecticut border 50 miles southeast of Albany.
Deputies say they found Canaan resident Aubrey Schmitt lying near the vehicle with serious injuries. Emergency care was provided, but police say she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies say her car had left the road, hit an embankment and overturned, ejecting her from the vehicle.
Police say she wasn't wearing a seat belt. Schmitt was traveling alone.
Alcohol use is suspected in the crash, but the investigation is continuing.
