A Joplin truck driver suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 4 a.m. Wednesday on Route EE, 3 miles east of Newtonia in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Mark A. Mensen, 47, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Mensen was driving an eastbound truck rig that ran off the road, overturned and crashed into a fence, the patrol said.
• Two people were injured in two crashes involving three vehicles within a one-minute span about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday on Missouri Highway 37 in Butterfield, according to the state patrol said.
Genove D. Avalos, 27, of Springfield, and Jason D. Goff, 45, of Monett, were taken to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield with moderate injuries.
Avalos was driving a southbound car that ran into the rear of a truck driven by Sammy J. McElroy, 58, of Brighton, when McElroy slowed to make a left turn. Avalos' car ended up sideways in the southbound lane, where it was struck moments later by a van driven by Goff, the patrol said.
