A London man is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 involving a Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Officer.
The incident occurred Thursday at 4:47 p.m. near the 33 mile marker in Laurel County.
Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received the report and the KSP Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene and determined that a 2017 Ford Explorer operated by Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Officer Christopher McQueen, 33, of Corbin, was traveling northbound when a 1995 Cadillac Eldorado operated by John D. McQueen, 85, of London, was previously parked on the right hand shoulder of the roadway.
Preliminary investigation indicates that John McQueen attempted to make an illegal left handed turn across the northbound lanes of I-75 in front of oncoming traffic in an attempt to go back southbound when he was struck by Christopher McQueen.
Christopher McQueen and his passenger Mary K. Reed, 55, of Corbin, were transported to the Saint Joseph Hospital in London where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
John McQueen, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.
