Charlotte, NC : One person killed and another injured after fatal accident at Mt Holly Road on Late Sunday night ,June 7th 2015

A woman is facing multiple charges after a fatal accident that killed a man on Mount Holly Road at Chattoroy Drive late Sunday night.

Jessica Sowell was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima heading outbound on Mount Holly Road while Casey Townsend was driving a 2013 GMC Yukon in the opposite direction, inbound on Mount Holly Road. Both cars were heading towards the 10400 block of Mount Holly Road when Sowell drove her car across the double yellow line at hit the GMC head on, according to CMPD. The Nissan Altima rotated and stopped in the roadway and the GMC drove off the right side of the road and rolled over in the ditch, according to police.

Townsend was trapped in the car and pronounced dead by Medic, according to police. Sowell has non-life threatening injuries.

Sowell was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, texting while driving, trafficking Heroin, PWISD MDMA, PWISD Methamphetamine, felony possession of schedule II drugs, misdemeanor possession of scheduled IV drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia (non-marijuana related), possession of drug paraphernalia (marijuana related), possession of marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle, according to CMPD.

Sowell admitted to police she was using her cell phone when the crash happened. She was previously arrested in March 2015 with felony possession of cocaine and possession of stolen firearm.
