Willmar, MN : Atwater man injured in U.S. Highway 12 crash with semi on Tuesday, January 31, 2017

A truck crashed broadside into a semi Tuesday on U.S. Highway 12 in Willmar, sending a 40-year-old Atwater man to Rice Memorial Hospital.

According to the State Patrol, around 11:20 a.m., the semi exited onto Highway 12 from North U.S. Highway 71.

It stopped at the stop sign, but pulled onto Highway 12 in front of a 2004 Chevy Silverado, which had been traveling west on Highway 12. The Chevy crashed into the semi, a 1996 Peterbilt Conventional.

Chevy driver Jeffrey Michael Stegeman was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with non-life threatening injuries. He had been wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Semi driver Michael Ray Erickson, 63, of Balaton, was not injured. He also wore a seatbelt.

The Patrol said alcohol was not a factor in the incident, and road conditions were dry at the time.
