Miramar, FL : Motorcyclist dies after I-75 crash in Pembroke Pines on Friday, December 5, 2014
A motorcyclist involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 during rush hour on Friday has died.
Authorities said the collision, which took place on the southbound lanes near Miramar Parkway just before 4 p.m., involved a total of four vehicles, including a tractor trailer, and blocked southbound traffic for hours.
Authorities said the 23-year-old victim was trying to pass a BMW sedan when he lost control of the motorcycle, hit the side of the car and was ejected. The motorcycle was then swept up underneath the cab of the tractor trailer.
He was airlifted to an area hospital, where he later died.
No one else was injured.
Three southbound lanes remained closed for hours while crews cleared the scene. Southbound traffic was backed up for miles, north of Griffin Road.
A Road Ranger tow truck removed the motorcycle from the roadway just after 6 p.m.
