Gastonia, NC : One injured, one dead in Pharr accident on Thursday, 10th November 2016
A Pharr Yarns employee died Thursday morning from injuries sustained at the McAdenville plant where the textile company spins high performance yarns.
Wednesday night, two men sustained injuries at the plant related to equipment.
Gaston County Emergency Services received a call at 10:06 p.m. and found one employee with life-threatening injuries and another with injuries that didn’t threaten his life, Lt. T. Jones said.
Both Pharr and GEMS declined to provide the men’s names.
The employees were taken to CaroMont, where the employee with minor injuries was treated and released the same night.
The other employee was stabilized and brought to Carolinas Medical Center, where he later died.
Supervisors and a company chaplain are now providing grief services to employees, Pharr said in a statement Thursday.
“Words are not sufficient to express our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and coworkers,” Pharr CEO Bill Carstarphen said in the statement. “The entire Carstarphen family and the Pharr community will continue to keep everyone involved in our thoughts and prayers.”
OSHA is investigating the accident, said Nick Johnson, Pharr corporate safety and health manager.
“Everyone at Pharr is grieving,” he said in the statement. “But we are committed, of course, to making sure we understand all details about this unfortunate situation.”
