Salem, OR : I-5 crash kills two in Douglas County on Sunday, March 19th 2017
Two drivers are dead after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5, Oregon State Police said on Sunday.
Authorities said the collision occurred around 3 a.m., as a 2014 Ford Focus drove the wrong direction on Interstate 5's southbound lane "at what is believed to be a high rate of speed" until it hit a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta.
The two solo drivers, both men, died at the scene of the crash. The incident, near the 124 southbound on-ramp near Roseburg, drew in Roseburg Police and Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation for assistance, and reduced to the highway to a single southbound lane until 6 a.m.
Names have not been released as next of kin notifications are still being made, police said, with more information to follow on Sunday. This is a developing story.
