Two dead in I-10 accident, tanker contains hazardous substance

WLOX News has confirmed the traffic accident involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 near the 47 mile marker in D'Iberville has left at least two people dead.

Corporal Jason Gazzo with the Mississippi Highway Patrol confirms the driver of the 18-wheeler and the driver of the car the truck hit are dead.

Gazzo said the 18-wheeler was carrying a hazardous substance, so moving the tanker will take awhile. Luckily the tank did not rupture.

Authorities are asking drivers headed eastbound on I-10 to find an alternate route. All three eastbound lanes are closed at the accident site.

The Harrison County Coroner is on the scene, but the identities of the victims are being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
