While police investigate Monday's fatal wreck on Route 126, friends of a mother and son who survived the crash have set up a fundraiser to help the family.A GoFundMe page was set up to provide assistance to 28-year-old Rebecca Stewart and her 5-year-old son, Max, who were injured when their van and a box truck collided at routes 126 and 132.
"Max was taken to Maine Medical Center with a broken leg, broken arm and busted jaw; he had surgery today and is stable," according to the fundraiser page. "Rebecca is undergoing surgery and has more surgeries ahead of her. She has a crushed pelvic (bone), broken leg and severely injured arm. They could use all the help they can get, and they would greatly appreciate any help."
At the request of the family, no further information was being released about their conditions. Stewart is the mother of three boys, according to the fundraiser page.
The Monday night crash claimed the life of Zachary Gibbens, 46, of Lewiston, who was driving the box truck.
