METAIRIE, LA : Chain reaction of crashes kills 2, including man trying to alert oncoming traffic on Monday, 17th June 2024

Two people are dead after a chain reaction of crashes on the interstate in Metairie.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crashes happened Monday, June 17, shortly after midnight on I-10 West near Bonnabel Boulevard.

The first crash happened between a 2012 Kia Soul and a 2017 Toyota Tundra. The Kia was left disabled and abandoned in the roadway, LSP says.

Carlos Martinez, 78, was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla and struck the disabled Kia. Police say he exited his vehicle to alert oncoming traffic when he was then fatally struck in another collision.
