Ellsworth, ME : Driver in critical condition in a crash in Bangor Road on Wednesday morning, September 21, 2016
The driver who was seriously injured in a crash on the Bangor Road on Wednesday morning remained in critical condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center as of Thursday afternoon.
Police said Scott Wallace, 58, of Howland was headed south on the Bangor Road shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday when he apparently crossed over the centerline just south of the Christian Ridge Road intersection.
When he did so, Wallace’s Dodge Stratus collided with a northbound Chevrolet Equinox driven by 45-year-old Jennifer Reed of Fletchers Landing.
Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, were taken by County Ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.
Information about their specific injuries was not available Thursday, but Wallace was the more seriously injured of the two. He was taken by LifeFlight helicopter from Ellsworth to the Bangor hospital.
The crash reduced the Bangor Road to one lane as officers worked to reconstruct the crash. That resulted in backups on both the Bangor and Bucksport roads (routes 1A and 1, respectively) during the morning commute on Wednesday.
It was also not clear yet, as of Thursday, what may have caused Wallace to cross the centerline.
