Punta Gorda , FL : One man was injured after Single Vehicle rollover Crash near I- 75 mile marker on saturday morning, December 13th 2014
A man was taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-75 near Punta Gorda Saturday morning.
The crash happened near the I-75 mile marker 164 exit ramp at around 11:48 a.m.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Chevy Astro -- driven by 22-year-old William Hunter -- was going north on I-75 approaching the 164 exit ramp. The vehicle was slow exiting the interstate and suffered two blow outs on the front tires.
The blown tires caused the car to run off the roadway. The car then rotated and struck a reflector sign -- causing the vehicle to flip. The car landed on its roof.
The passenger of the vehicle -- later identified as 25-year-old Michael Lemke -- was pinned under the vehicle. Aero-Med arrived on scene and flew Lemke to Lee Memorial Hospital on a trauma alert.
Portions of I-75 northbound and the mile marker 164 exit ramp were shutdown, but have since reopened.
Hunter was charged with operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment and no proof of insurance.
