Union County, TN : One dead, three injured in Union County crash on Thursday, 31st January 2019

One person was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision along Maynardville Highway in Union County.Colin T. Fischer, 18, of Tazewell, was behind the wheel of a 2010 Nissan Altima on state Route 33 just before 6 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle crossed the center line near Possum Valley Road and struck an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet Express van, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol incident report.

Fischer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed, the report states.

In the opinion of investigating THP Trooper Chris Hutchins, safety restraints would not have made a difference, the report reads.

There was no sign that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to the report.

The Chevy's driver, 58-year-old Irvin D. Woods, of Knoxville, and his passengers — Troy W. Collins, 43, and Wilford L. Billingsley, 64 — all were injured. Their conditions were not immediately available Thursday.

Woods was cited for driving on a suspended license. No criminal charges are expected.
