Ravenna,OH : Mahoning County man dies in Deerfield crash on July, Friday 7th 2017

A one-vehicle crash on S.R. 14 in Deerfield on Friday morning killed a 38-year-old man, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said William P. Martin of Beloit in Mahoning County was pronounced dead at the scene by the Portage County Coroner's Office.

Martin was traveling southeast on S.R. 14 south of Bandy Road at approximately 9:25 a.m. Friday when his 2001 Buick Century went off the right side of the roadway.

Martin apparently overcorrected, and his car traveled across the center line, off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and a tree, according to the highway patrol.

Martin was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Ravenna post. It is the second fatal crash in Deerfield this year and the sixth overall in Portage County, according to the highway patrol.
