Hawthorne, FL : One man dies, One injured in wrong-way crash on SR 20 east of County Road 325 on Saturday morning, August 30, 2014
A 32-year-old Hawthorne driver was killed and his 24-year-old female passenger, also from Hawthorne, was seriously injured early Saturday morning when a car heading in the wrong direction slammed almost head-on into their vehicle on State Road 20, according the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said William Keith Sanders died at the accident scene after the collision, which occurred about 2:15 a.m. on SR 20 east of County Road 325. His passenger, Tami Renay Thompson, was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in serious condition.
Sanders was driving a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero eastbound on SR 20, while an unidentified motorist was driving a 2005 Chevy Impala westbound in the eastbound lanes, troopers said.
The front of the Chevy struck the left-front of the Alero in a nearly head-on collision, according to FHP.
Troopers said the identification of the driver of the Chevy will be released upon further investigation.
