Rockledge, FL : Woman, 2 animals killed in crash on southbound I-95 in Brevard County on Wednesday, July 6, 2016
A woman and two animals were killed in a crash and vehicle fire on southbound I-95 in Brevard County Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said. A man was also severely injured.
The victim was identified as Marlene Abrams, 66, of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania.
The crash and fire were reported just before 5 p.m. near mile marker 195 in Rockledge.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Toyota van, driven by Maria Arteagade Durant, 54, of Miami Lakes, was traveling southbound on I-95 behind a Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Richard Abrams, 46, of Pennsylvania, that was pulling a trailer. Marlene Abrams was a passenger in the Suburban. For an unknown reason, the FHP said, the van struck the trailer, causing both vehicles to overturn. The Suburban caught fire, troopers said.
Marlene Abrams was killed, and Richard Abrams was seriously injured, according to the FHP. A dog and chicken that were inside the Suburban were also killed.
Richard Abrams is being treated at Holmes Regional Medical Center.
The crash is under investigation and charges are pending.
