State police say a man was killed when a vehicle trying to avoid a deer crashed into the victim's oncoming vehicle on a rural western Pennsylvania road.
Troopers from the Clarion barracks say 53-year-old Scott Smith, of New Kensington, and his 58-year-old wife, Stephanie, were southbound on Route 66 near Red Bank when their car was struck by a northbound SUV about 10 p.m. Saturday.
Police say the northbound driver skidded out of control on wet pavement trying to avoid the deer and went into the southbound lane.
The Smiths were flown to a Pittsburgh hospital where Scott Smith died and his wife was treated. Two people in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
