East Islip, NY : Motorcyclist dies after crash on Long Island on Sunday July 20th 2014

Police say a Long Island motorcyclist who crashed into the back of a car has died.

Suffolk County police say the 2012 Yamaha slammed into a Mitsubishi Galant on Sunrise Highway in East Islip on Sunday near Exit 46.

The motorcyclist, 21-year-old Christopher Gonzalez of Medford, suffered serious head injuries. Police say he died at a hospital Monday night.

His passenger, 21-year-old Samantha Negron of Patchogue, also suffered serious injuries and remained in a hospital.

The driver of the car and her 13-year-old grandson were not injured.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The car and motorbike were impounded for safety checks.
