VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL : Driver flees deadly Volusia crash scene after getting out to look at victim on Wednesday, 1st August 2018

WESH 2 News has new information about a crash that killed Pedro Carrera Perez, 72, Wednesday morning in Orange City.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a tip led them to the vehicle they believe was involved in the hit-and-run crash at a local intersection.No arrests have been made, but troopers said charges are pending.

"Just a big heart. Everybody who knew him loved him. He was not just a nobody. He was loved by his family very much," said Barbara Carrera, the victim's niece.

Perez was known as the one in the family who could always make everybody laugh.

His family knew him as Chi Chi.

Troopers said Perez was on his bike at a crosswalk when a driver struck him. They said that the driver got out and saw him lying lifeless in the road and did nothing before leaving the scene.
