SEATTLE, WA : Mechanical failure likely cause of deadly motorcycle crash on Monday, 5th September 2016
Authorities say the motorcycle involved in a deadly crash Monday during the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe likely had a "catastrophic mechanical failure" just before the incident.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says the rear wheel of the motorcycle became locked, forcing Ed Ritter to crash into a bus during a drag race at the Evergreen Speedway.
That initial investigation indicates he was traveling at 97 mph, overshot the track and hit the empty parked bus.
Doug Hobbs, president of Evergreen Speedway says the crash happened at the annual Monday Drag Racing event and that the rest of the races that day were canceled. Spectators were cleared from the stands after the crash.
