Two Central Davidson High School students were killed in a car accident near Summerville Church Road on Wednesday morning, according to Davidson County Schools.
Donna Stafford, the school system's public information officer, identified the two students as Anna Ascencion and Cameron Hedrick.
"The teachers and students are very much saddened by the news," Stafford wrote in an email. "Our focus is on supporting the family, students and staff members of Central Davidson High School."
The accident happened on N.C. 47 near Summerville Church Road at around 8 a.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The road is expected to be closed at that location until 3 p.m.
DOT and public safety personnel are on scene to direct traffic through detours.
Stafford said that guidance counselors, social workers and support staff are on campus to provide counseling and support for the staff and students.
"We are asking our school community for their thoughts and prayers for the student's families and friends, and the students and staff at Central Davidson High School."
