Jasper ,GA : Nokomis woman dies following I-75 wreck on September, Wednesday 6th 2017
A Nokomis woman died Wednesday following a two-vehicle accident during overnight hours Wednesday morning.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 2008 Honda SUV was traveling north on Interstate 75 less than a mile south of U.S. Highway 129 when it approached a Kenworth semi truck from the rear around 2:40 a.m.
The semi, driven by 46-year-old Anthony Sisk, of Hanceville, Ala., had just merged from the east shoulder into the outside lane when the Honda swerved into the outside lane from the middle lane, according to the FHP report. Sisk was not injured in the accident.
The Honda, driven by 84-year-old Anthony Levering, of Nokomis, struck the rear of the semi’s trailer after entering the outside lane, the report states.
The Honda spun clockwise and stopped partially in the middle and outside lanes facing east, according to the report. The semi stopped on the paved shoulder facing north.
A passenger in the Honda, 85-year-old Joan Berkery, of Nokomis, was air-lifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in critical condition, the report states. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Levering was taken to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Charges are pending an investigation.
