PLATTSBURGH, NY : Northway accident victim dies on Friday, August 4, 2017

The local man critically injured Friday in a multiple-car accident on the Northway died Tuesday morning, and another crash victim continues to recover.

Family and friends are mourning Brian W. Thomas, 41, of Plattsburgh, who had been on life support at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after suffering traumatic injuries in the accident.

State Police said Wednesday that the cause of death, officially ruled accidental, was blunt force impact as a result of the car crash.

Thomas drove his 2000 Chevrolet Corvette onto Interstate 87 northbound from the Exit 36 on ramp at a high rate of speed, State Police said, and lost control of the car, which crossed the median and entered the southbound lane of travel, striking two cars there.

He was taken by ambulance to University of Vermont Health Network, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, then airlifted to the Burlington hospital, where he was listed in critical condition through Monday.
