CORNING, NY : Woman dead in I-5 collision with big rig near Corning on Monday, 2nd November, 2020

A woman was killed Monday morning when her 1991 Toyota Landcruiser collided with a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 5 just south of Corning.

The woman, whose name was not released, was traveling north on I-5 near Liberal Avenue around 6 a.m. Monday when she suddenly veered left, lost control and entered the southbound lanes directly in the path of a semi-truck and trailer driven by Daniel Joosten, 50, of Erie, Colorado, according to an incident report issued Monday by the California Highway Patrol.

The semi struck the Toyota on the left side and both vehicles left the roadway onto the grass shoulder, where the Toyota burst into flames, the release said.

The woman was unable to exit the Toyota and succumbed to smoke and flames, the release said.
