Platte City,MO : Adult man and woman and elderly woman killed in crash on I-29 in Platte City on may, friday 12th 2017

Three people were killed Friday afternoon in a car crash in Platte City. It happened at about 12:30 p.m. and I-29 and 92 Highway. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash involved four vehicles.

FOX 4's Shannon O'Brien is there and she said one car is so damaged it no longer resembles a car, but instead a ball of metal.

The crash reportedly occurred when a silver GMC Envoy with Kansas plates was stopped behind a semi with no trailer along I-29 as a MoDOT crew was performing road-striping up ahead.

Police said a white pick-up truck slammed into the back of the Envoy at full highway speed, forcing it into the back of the semi, instantly killing three people -- an adult man and woman, and an elderly woman -- inside the Envoy.

Two people inside the pick-up truck, who police said are from Iowa, were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
