Waverly, TN : 31-year-old man dies after van hits semi head-on in Humpreys County on Friday afternoon, March 25, 2016

A man died in a crash Friday afternoon after authorities say his van crossed the center line of the road and hit a semi head-on.

Authorities reported Russell Moses, of Lyles, Tennessee, was driving east when he crossed the dividing line of State Route 70 for unknown reasons at 3:20 p.m.

Moses’ van then hit the front left side of a semi head-on, coming to rest against a guardrail. The 31-year-old was killed at the scene.

The semi was forced off the roadway into a ditch. The driver, 57-year-old Barry Webb, was injured. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene to clean up spilled diesel, gasoline, transmission fluid and oil. Further details have not been released.

Sheriff Chris Davis told News 2 the area of the road where the crash happened is a known problem area and one of the deadliest spots for accidents in the county.

He said their department has pushed for two more lanes of traffic to be added for years.

“It’s a perfect example of something that’s going to continue to happen until we get help to fix it,” said Sheriff Davis. “I know things don’t happen overnight, but we need someone to look at it, evaluate it and do a good study on it and see what the best outcome is that we could ask for.”

Paula Kelley knows how dangerous this stretch of road can be. She pulls onto it from her driveway every day.

“It’s very dangerous,” she told News 2. “People coming down the hill and I have to be very careful.”
