A Lima man is dead after a two-vehicle crash near Lima early Friday.
According to a news release from the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash was at 7:22 a.m. Friday at Allentown and Wapak roads.
Jonathan A. Smith, 19, of Lima, was killed. He was pronounced dead at St. Rita’s Medical Center. His passenger, Paul K. Rossman, 41, of Lexington, Kentucky, was in critical condition at St. Rita’s, according to the release.
Smith was driving a Honda northbound on Wapak Road. He failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of a truck driven by Michele A. Wassink, 53, of Lima, who was driving east on Allentown Road. Wassink was treated and released at St. Rita’s also.
The patrol reports seatbelts were in use, but drugs are believed to be a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, American Township Fire and EMS, American Township Police, Allen County Coroner’s Office, Big Daddy’s Towing Inc. of Lima, as well as Minich Towing Service of Alger.
