Two people were killed Saturday in traffic crashes in St. Joseph and Cass counties.
U.S. 131 at North Main Street in Three Rivers was closed for more than four hours Saturday afternoon while Michigan State Police investigated a crash that killed Patricia Buelow of Kalamazoo.
Police said Buelow was a passenger in a car driven by Keith Lewis, 64, of Three Rivers. Lewis was southbound on U.S. 131 when he attempted to turn east onto North Main Street and his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck driven by Michael Bender, 53, of Sturgis. Bender was northbound on U.S. 131.
Buelow was pronounced dead at the scene. Lewis was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with non-life-threatening injuries. Bender was not injured.
Earlier Saturday, Cass County sheriff’s deputies investigated a crash that killed 22-year-old Daimon Leader, of Elkhart, Ind.
Police said Leader was driving a motorcycle on M-205 near Cassopolis Road when the bike was struck by a pickup truck driven by Bradley Wiswell, 21, of Elkhart, Ind., who was turning onto Cassopolis Road.
Leader was declared dead at the scene. Wiswell was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.
