Baton Rouge, LA : Two-vehicle crash kills Franklin woman Wednesday morning on April, Wednesday 5th 2017
A Franklin woman died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Loreauville Road near its intersection with Aucoin Road.
According to Louisiana State Police Master Trooper Brooks David, 36-year-old Jesse Romero of Hondo, Texas, was driving westbound in a 2001 Chevrolet truck while 58-year-old Jody Charpentier of Franklin was driving eastbound in a 2007 Toyota Sienna.
Romero crossed into the eastbound lane, according to David, resulting in the crash. David said he does not know why Romero crossed the center line.
The hood of Romero’s car was demolished in the incident, and his vehicle was found resting against a mailbox when emergency personnel arrived. Charpentier’s vehicle had flipped onto its side.
Romero, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a hospital via AirMed for treatment. Charpentier, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.
Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, the results of which are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Loreauville Road was blocked from its intersection with Emile Verret Road all the way to Belle Place Middle School for at least an hour because of the wreck. Also responding to the scene were the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Iberia Parish Fire District No. 1 and Acadian Ambulance.
