Mitchell, SD : Man seriously injured in motorcycle, SUV crash in Mitchell on Monday evening, May 2, 2016
One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a Monday evening crash in Mitchell involving a motorcycle and an SUV.
According to Tony Mangan, public information officer for the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the male driver of a 2007 Yamaha sport bike was in critical condition after being struck by a 2006 Ford Escape at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Monday in Mitchell.
The driver of the Escape, a female, was at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Main Street, and failed to properly stop before crossing Main Street. The driver of the Yamaha, a male, was traveling north on Main Street when the two collided, Mangan said. The driver of the Yamaha was wearing a helmet but suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell and then flown to Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, Mangan said. The driver of the Escape was wearing her seat belt and was uninjured.
Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and the Mitchell Police Division assisted at the scene. Charges are pending against both drivers. Names were not released pending the notification of family members.
