ZANESVILLE, OH : Muskingum student-athlete killed in I-70 crash near Zanesville on Thursday, December, 21st 2017

A Thursday afternoon accident on I-70 near Zanesville resulted in the death of 20-year old Jarrell Marsh of Cincinnati, a Muskingum University basketball player who just one day earlier scored his 1,000th career point for the Muskies.

According to reports issued by the Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol and reported on WHIZ and AVC Communication websites, Marsh was westbound on I-70 at around 12:30 p.m. and he went off the left side of the road into the median and overturned ending up in the eastbound lanes near State Route 93 with Marsh ejected from the vehicle. According to reports, the Patrol says seat belt usage was a contributing factor in the crash.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, the Muskingum County Coroner’s Office and the Washington Township Fire Department all assisted at the scene of the accident and both eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for nearly three hours.

Marsh, a junior business major from Cincinnati, became the 31st men’s player in Muskingum history to reach the 1,000-point mark on Wednesday with a 28-point game in an 84-78 loss to Waynesburg. He was averaging 20.9 points through nine games this season.

He was an all-Ohio Athletic Conference honorable mention selection last year when he averaged a team-best 17.5 points per game and was the OAC Freshman of the Year in 2015-16 when he averaged 16 points per game, including a career-best 41-point game against Marietta College.
