Logansport, IN : One man dies after motorcycle crash on Wednesday 5 October 2016

A Kokomo man involved in a motorcycle crash in Logansport Wednesday night was pronounced dead later that evening, according to police.

First responders were dispatched to the crash at about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5 on East Broadway near 15th Street.

Logansport Police Lt. A.J. Rozzi said Alex Myers, 27, Kokomo, was westbound on East Broadway on a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle with a group of three other motorcyclists traveling at about 40 mph. Rozzi said Myers was in the center lane and moved into the right lane, where his front tire struck the back tire of a motorcycle slightly ahead of him operated by Dalton Tabler, 22, Logansport. It caused Myers to lose control and lay down his motorcycle, Rozzi said.

Myers, who was not wearing a helmet, came off his motorcycle near East Broadway’s intersection with 15th Street while the motorcycle continued on and came to rest west of the crossing, Rozzi said. Tabler did not lose control of his motorcycle, Rozzi also said.

Prompt Ambulance Central transported Myers to Logansport Memorial Hospital’s helipad, where he was flown to Memorial Hospital of South Bend, according to Rozzi. Myers was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday, Rozzi said.

Tabler said at the scene Wednesday he did not see Myers come up behind him before the crash, as his motorcycle does not have mirrors.

“I was just cruising down the road and the next thing I know he clipped my back end and I don’t have mirrors, I can’t see him coming up behind me,” Tabler said.

Tabler added he thinks Myers may have been looking behind himself before the crash.

“I assume he looked back,” Tabler said. “I don’t know, I couldn’t see him, he was behind me. All I know is I felt my back tire get hit, [I] went sideways, I look back and I just see him skidding across the ground.”

The Logansport Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police also responded.
