New Castle, PA : Two injured in State Street crash on Friday, March 17th 2017
A woman possibly experiencing a medical emergency set in motion a five-vehicle accident that also damaged a house, a garage and fence along State Street on Friday morning.
New Castle police said a Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Nancy Pollman, 58, of 2203 Camden Ave. was eastbound on West State Street at 11:15 a.m. Friday, traveling down hill, when her car crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck driven by Jarrel Jones, 33, of 412 Bell Ave., traveling westbound. Police said Pollman crossed back over the road and struck a parked vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, owned by Brian G. and Jason D. Hill of Reynolds Street. After striking the parked car, police said, Pollman hit a large tree in the front yard of 1117 W. State St.
Officers said the impact of Pollman's car pushed the Hill vehicle into a second parked car, a Kia Soul owned by Caroline Hilliker of 1117 W.State St. The Impala then hit the front porch of the house, knocking out the roof pillars.
The Hilliker car, officers said, was pushed through the door of an attached garage, knocking over a Harley Davidson motorcycle inside the garage.
Police add that a split-rail fence in the front yard of the house was destroyed.
Jones, driver of the pickup truck, told police he was coming around a bend in the road by the car wash when he saw Pollman's vehicle on the wrong side of the road, He said he had moved over to the curb when his truck was struck, according to the police report.
The report stated Pollman's blood sugar, checked by an EMT at the scene, was found to be low. Officers said Pollman and her passenger, Gary Pollman, 62, also of 2203 Camden Ave., both sustained suspected serious injury and were taken by ambulance to UPMC Jameson and St. Elizabeth hospitals.
Police said the Grand Am, the pickup truck and the Impala were all towed from the scene.
