One was killed and another severely injured in a Kalkaska County crash.

Coldsprings-Excelsior Township Fire and Rescue Department Capt. Scott Tinker said emergency personnel responded to a crash between a passenger car and a garbage truck at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday along County Road 571 — or Darragh Road — just north of Needles Lane.

One person in the car was killed and another was taken to Munson Medical Center with “priority” injuries, Tinker said. The road remained closed into the evening as investigators combed the scene.

The driver of the garbage truck wasn’t injured but also was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Tinker said. The names and ages of those involved have not yet been released. Coldsprings-Excelsior personnel were assisted by fire departments in Kalkaska and Frederic townships, Tinker added.
