MANATEE COUNTY, FL : 1 dead in Manatee five-car crash on U.S. 301 on Tuesday, 10th December, 2019

A woman died and two others were injured in a five car pile-up on U.S. 301 after a driver failed to slow down for traffic congestion Tuesday morning.

Rosalinda Santana, 40, of Bradenton was pronounced dead at the scene by Manatee County emergency responders, while her passenger Juanita Del Rosario, 44, of Bradenton was transported to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at 9:52 a.m. on 301 north of 63rd Avenue East.

FHP said the driver of a 2001 Ford van, identified as Nathan A. Taylor, 38, of Sarasota, was traveling southbound on the inside lane of 301 approaching the 63rd Avenue East intersection but failed to slow down and struck Santana’s 1997 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 heavy duty pickup truck.

The impact crushed the truck which lunged forward and hit a 2001 Toyota Corolla and injuring driver Brittany L. Brochard, 35, of St. Petersburg. She was transported to Blake Medical Center.

Brochard’s Toyota was shoved into a 2010 Ford Mustang driven by 63-year-old Mark E. Lilly of Sarasota, who refused medical treatment. His Mustang than struck the rear end of a Dodge pickup truck driven by Robert S. Didion of Sarasota, who also declined medical treatment.
