Snowville, UT : Idaho man dies after car goes airborne in fiery I-84 crash in Box Elder County on Monday, August 1, 2016
An 18-year-old man died Monday after a fiery, violent crash on I-84 in Box Elder County.
Tucker J. Kunz, of Middleton, Idaho, was a back seat passenger in a 2016 Lexus that was traveling east on I-84 several miles east of Snowville around 1:20 p.m. when it drifted into the center median area and struck a barrier, sending the vehicle airborne for about 100 feet, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
The car rolled and then came to a rest partially in traffic, the agency reported. Passersby removed all three occupants from the car before it burst into flames, but Kunz was not breathing when he was removed, according to police.
Witnesses to the crash performed CPR on Kunz before he was taken away in an ambulance, but he died before arriving at Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton.
The driver of the Lexus, an 18-year-old Highland man, as well as a front seat passenger, were taken to Bear River Valley Hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, according to the UHP.
