OKEECHOBEE, FL : Three injured in crash at Okeechobee airport on Saturday, 23rd November, 2019

Three people were taken to a hospital Saturday afternoon after their plane went down at Okeechobee County Airport, authorities say.

A single-engine Piper lost power and crash-landed at the south side of the airport in its industrial park, according to Michelle Bell, spokeswoman for the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the airfield at around 12:45 p.m. and found the plane in flames, said Bell.

The two passengers were able to escape on their own, Bell said. But deputies had to pull the pilot out of the burning plane.

The three were driven to Raulerson Hospital and then airlifted to an area hospital, with unknown injuries, Bell said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the crash.
