A 22-year-old motorcyclist from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, died Thursday night in Escambia County after a collision with a vehicle.
At about 8:05 p.m. Thursday, the man was traveling east on Gulf Beach Highway, approaching Wayne Avenue, while riding at Kawasaki Ninja KZ1000.
A Pontiac Grand Am was stopped at a stop sign on Wayne Avenue, waiting to turn left onto Gulf Beach Highway.
The car's driver, a 61-year-old Pensacola woman, did not see the motorcycle and pulled the Pontiac pulled into the path of the motorcycle, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The front of the motorcycle collided with the left side of the Pontiac, and the motorcyclist was thrown onto the hood and windshield of the car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to FHP, the motorcycle did not have a headlight and was traveling at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
