Martinsville, VA : City man injured in motorcycle crash on Oneida Street on Tuesday, March 22, 2017

A man was taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville and then flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after the motorcycle he was operating crashed Tuesday night, according to a Martinsville Police Department report and information from police Capt. Rob Fincher.

The motorcycle driver, a resident of Martinsville, was traveling northbound on Oneida Street about 9:03 p.m. Tuesday when the 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle he was operating ran off the roadway and struck a mailbox and fence in the 100 blockof Inman Street, according to the report by Lt. S.E. Hines. The motorcycle then continued to travel northbound on Oneida Street and struck a parked 2013 Honda Accord head-on in the 100 block of Inman Street.

The report listed approximate repair costs as $2,500 to the motorcycle, $3,500 to the Honda Accord and $250 to the mailbox, according to the police report.

Fincher said: “Our vehicle crash reconstruction team was called out to assist with the investigation. There are two vehicles listed in the report, however the second vehicle was not being operated. It was struck while parked in a driveway. The operator of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed does appear to be a factor in the crash.”
